Welcome everyone. Just getting things set up for the time being

Howdy all, just setting things up and getting to know features. My time is pretty scarce as im still in the process of setting up my “business” for lack of a better word with the lease purchase side.

It involves getting a smattering of details taken care on the truck that Knight is paying for intermingled with running freight, so i have my hands full.

No worries, we all have to figure out these new digs!

Oh, this is very cool! I’m glad you set this up, Davy!

Turtle, that was an awesome message you left last night. Thank you for that. I cherished having both you and Davy with us. I trusted you guys 100% to always give the perfect advice and tell it like it is. You two are absolute legends, and I could never thank you guys enough for all of your contributions over the years.

The trucking community desperately needs mentors like you guys! I’ll have the link to this place on the farewell page, and it will definitely push some traffic here. Thankfully, anyone who didn’t get word we were closing will know how to find this place.

Onward!

Hello all

Feels like we moved into a new house with no furniture yet lol

I wasn’t going to do this, but I keep flipping over to TT. Kind of like pulling away from the curb of the old house and watching it fade away in the rear view mirror…

Yeah, I’m kinda freakin out here myself. I just finished the technical side of turning the site off. I’m going to test it in a few minutes by turning it off for a few minutes, which redirects to a different server, and then turning it back on for a little bit while I check the results of the change. If they’re good, I’ll turn it off permanently.

It’s hard to flip that switch for both technical reasons and sentimental reasons.

Ok I’m about to run a test. I’m gonna shut it off for a few minutes and then back on again, in case you happen to see it. Before I do it permanently, I’ll say so here.

Without knowing entirely what you planned, it looks like the thank you page loaded successfully. No links or anything.

Yap, the test is complete. I’ve switched it back to the original site for now and I’m letting the dust settle before I evaluate how it went. The next time will be the real deal.

I still haven’t completed the farewell page. That’s a quick, easy thing so I’ll add the link before the real changeover later today.

My heart is racing, and I feel like I’m gonna throw up.

Who knew the anxiety and sentimentality would reach this level? What are we to click on while sipping coffee, waiting on our 30, sitting in a tree stand (presently), etc.?

I imagine it’s easier for you in some ways, not having to maintain the day to day operations of a site. But on the flip side, this is also your baby. That HAS to be hard to let go. I get it.

Yeah, the anxiety part for me is mainly about the technical aspects of shutting everything down. I’m good at locking into ‘work mode’ where I shut off my emotions like a computer and dig in.

But every so often, I have a thought about the emotional side of it, and I have to take a walk for a few minutes. It’s hard to get your mind around shutting something down after 20 years.

I’ll have a couple of months of cleanup work to do as I close down the business itself, so I figure by the end of the year, everything will be complete.

I recall coming off the road in 2008, and by coincidence, I had to renew my driver’s license. I downgraded to a standard license so I wouldn’t be tempted to drive again. That was a weird feeling after 15 years of driving. Closing down the website, I feel just like I did back then.

I’m just THRILLED this website is up and running. It will at least give old friends a place to meet and continue talking, and new drivers will start trickling in for advice.

The test is complete, everything worked, and now it’s just time to flip the switch permanently. I think I’ll stall a little and go for my run and clear my head. I’ll turn it off this afternoon.

Crazy times.

Having any luck?

It’s a bit chilly out today, but beautiful up here in Keeseville, NY.

I went for my run through the mountains at my house and wore my blue shirt instead of my orange one hoping to look less like a deer

I don’t know what to do about my German Shepherd, though. So far we’ve never been accidentally shot.

Nothing but gray squirrels, red squirrels, and chipmunks. Lots of em..

No dudes in blue with a Shepherd yet.. I’ll probably let them pass…

Please do! We really do hope to return home after the run.

Well, I didn’t quite get the technical side of TT where it needed to be early enough in the day to do the shutdown so I’ll do it in the morning.

Well, another update. A couple of hours ago, I shut down TT, intending a short test to see how it went. But I was able to analyze everything while the shutdown was ongoing, and I don’t see any problems. It’s been off for over two hours now and there doesn’t seem to be any issues.

I could instantly turn it back on, and it would be like nothing ever happened, which is a huge relief during such a crazy time in my life, but I can’t think of any reason to do so.

So that might be it.

The current farewell page is about to get updates, including a link to this forum. I’m gonna do that today.

I see @IdahoLaura made it here today! Very cool!

I expect most of the long-timers to show up very soon. I’ll get that link posted so people find this place.

I thought I would check in on my laptop, where I can read posts better, before I head to work. Hope everyone has a good day!

Ok, I’ve added the link to this forum on the farewell page for TT, right at the top, and highlighted it, so I expect more people to show up!
