Hey buddy! Just waiting on a trainer at the moment. Finished orientation yesterday. Should be anytime now. There were quite a few people in our class so it may or may not take a couple days. Hoping to get that call tomorrow. I’ll keep updating here as it goes along.
Got a trainer and our first load! Headed from Chattanooga to Charlotte NC then to Phoenix AZ!
Here we go!
Whooo hoo!!! The fun begins. Be a sponge
Absolutely!! Soaking it all up!
Good deal. You’ll get some decent terrain on that trip and this time of year roll the dice on the weather. Going over 40 be ready for alot of A holes between Memphis and Little Rock. Make sure you get your rewards cards as you stop at the major truck stops.
Be safe, learn all you can and enjoy the trip.
My first day drive 633 miles from Fort Mill, South Carolina to Jackson Mississippi. Took an actual 10.5 hours of drive time with the truck governed at 64 mph but I felt pretty good about getting some miles in. Co-driver taking us on through Louisiana and into Texas and ill be back at it trying to get us to AZ here in just a few more hours.
We have a pretty great trainer and things are going fantastic so far. Im expecting there will be ups and downs but couldn’t have hoped for much better for training.
How many are on that truck. You mention a co driver and trainer. Ya’ll going the southern route then across 20/10. How did you like atlanta?? That’s always a mess, lol. Make sure ya’ll take the loop in Shrevport La, driver have been ignoring the construction detour and LA started impounding trucks for ignoring it. Otherwise should be smooth sailing. Duke’s in Canton Tx has awesome food.
Awesome work Jay!!!![]()
Curious what that comment was about
The system is flagging for mundane comments. Maybe davey can check it???
I restored them, I’ll see why its doing that
It’s going so great out here guys. Left LA this morning and cruising across AZ not far from Flagstaff headed to Chicago.
Yall be safe out there.
633 miles is an excellent day. Congratulations!
Hey man, I am really late to the party! I was just congratulating you on the “one and done” accomplishment on your CDL!
Thank you my friend! I really appreciate ya!
685 miles.. this close
to hitting 700. Im so ready to be done with this training though.
And that being said, im going to give this team thing a few months like I promised my buddy I would then I’m looking for a solo gig.
I don’t feel like I ever get to truly shutdown. The truck is constantly moving and we’ve been pushing really hard, driving down to the last minute almost every day.
It would feel a little different if we weren’t just getting training pay but I do want to go solo so that when I’m done with my day, I can shut the truck down and be done!
Im grateful for this opportunity but I can tell it’s not going to be the long term job for me.
Jay you are learning why most drivers don’t run teams. It is hard pushing that hard day after day. As with everything there are pro’s and con’s and each person has to evaluate that for themselves.
Stay safe and learn all you can from your trainer because it’s a different world once the training wheels come off.
I remember in Fl awhile back at a scale house 2 very nice young drivers from your company were trying to figure out how to slide the trailer tandems to make the load legal. They said they were both brand new and this was their first load. The scale officer was kind and told them to adjust it too make it legal and he would not cite them.
They had no clue what to do. I held class with both of them in the scale house parking lot. I even gave them an atlas as a graduation gift, lol. I felt sorry for them. The scale officer even came out and thanked me for taking time to help them out. He told me many new drivers from big companies come through there all the time like that.
I felt sorry for those drivers and it is beyond my ability to understand how any trainers could release drivers with such little understanding of basics.
Learn all you can, and you will still feel like you were thrown overboard when your basic training is done. Your succuss will depend if you have a life perserver or not!!
Great advice! Thank you kindly @PJerrold
Im loving my new job. On my last 40 hours of training then we get in our own truck for a week or 2 before going home. Killing my backing and really couldn’t ask for things to go any smoother.
I sincerely appreciate all the input, advice and help I’ve received from you guys and the TT forum!
Yall be safe.
Glad to hear its going well, keep up the good work. You’ve been posting some high miles. Definitely watch for burn out and being safe. Glad your are liking the job.
