What do you guys do for pastime or hobby while you’re out on the road. Me myself I’m in to listen to audiobooks and stusing my Bible. I’ve listened to 21 books this year of course why she’s up to 42 but that’s a different story just curious what everybody’s pastime is
I generally of i have time record music. O have an electronic drum kit, bass and keyboards, a powerful laptop with a full version of my studio setup along with an interface etc. Lately I’ve been too busy running.
I also have a 42 inch tv mounted and game. I have Verizon 5g wireless hone internet.
That is awesome and man I need a tv. The tablet just isn’t cutting it. That is awesome how you do all your music.
That’s cool Jay I wish I knew how to play a guitar.
Being as I’m retired I guess my hobby is rving. The wife and I went full time rving in 2018 and we really enjoy it. We have been all over the Southeast and have had a great time doing this lifestyle. It is not for everyone but it makes you feel like your on vacation every day.
I would love that, myself
Very nice looking!
I do not have enough room in a day cab for all that lol.
I was OTR from 2020 until 2023 before I switched to a local fuel hauling job. In my spare time on OTR I had a few things to keep my mind occupied.
-
Kettlebell workout every 2 days in the early morning before driving. I went from 210 pounds down to 180 pounds my first 6 months on the road. And they made me very strong. Kettlebells are useful because you can work out next to your truck and do them anywhere when you’re parked.
-
I taught myself meditation. At first I did this off duty. But I eventually learned to meditate while driving. I don’t recommend this while driving in heavy city traffic.
-
I started learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I would take classes while at home. But on the road I could still watch about an hour of video instructionals per day.
-
I would read e-books. Don’t buy physical books because they take up space. Your topic of interest is subjective.
I think the most important thing is to have goals. You need goals beyond your job as a driver. Otherwise, the endless days in a box will eventually break you down psychologically. Watching myself get stronger every month with Kettlebells was an example of a goal. My weight loss was another. Take your free time to make yourself a better human being. Improve yourself every day.
Thanks for your post. I’ve been driving since July 28,2025 (a rookie) I’ve lost about 14 lbs. With just labor. Throwing straps have really worked on my upper right arm lol. Never thought about the kettle bell weights thanks again
Since I team drove with my wife we always tried to stay away from the truck stops and for Christmas one year her grandmother bought us some folding bicycles. They were great to ride around when we could. That got us out of the truck and we could see some places with the bikes that we can not get to with the truck.
Now I Youtube… before trucking i wrote and published novels. Have them on audiobook also.
